Mendon, Nottawa, Marcellus voters renew millages

Operating millages were renewed this week in three area school districts.

Meanwhile, a request sought by Colon Community Schools was rejected by its voters.

By a 46-vote margin, Colon’s request was turned down. It was asking voters to decide the fate of a $14 million bond proposal to help fund a new athletic complex and classroom upgrades that would have included classroom furniture, technology upgrades, and additional safety improvements. District officials said the request would have not increased taxes.

By virtue of a request that was supported by 70 percent of the people who participated in Tuesday’s vote, Mendon Community Schools will continue its 18-mill tax rate levied on non-homestead properties. The tax is imposed on secondary residences, non-homestead properties and businesses.

Similar requests were also approved by voters in Nottawa Community School district and Marcellus Community Schools.
