A millage renewal request that has never been turned down will appear before St. Joseph County voters in November.
During their Executive Committee meeting Monday, St. Joseph County Board of Commissioners agreed to include on the November ballot a millage renewal request sought by St. Joseph County Central Dispatch.
If approved, the request will lower the agency’s millage rate to an even nine-tenths of a mill. The current rate is 1 mill.
The millage to support Central Dispatch was last renewed in May 2018, the fourth consecutive successful request since voters originally approved funding for countywide 911 service in 1990.
County officials said the current mill generates more than $1.7 million annually.
The current millage expires at the end of the year. The renewal request will be for a five-year period, a change from what had previously been seven-year cycles.
