“Scotty” Alan Scott Hines, 57

“Scotty” Alan Scott Hines, age 57, of Burr Oak, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday morning, August 24, 2025.

He was born on March 5, 1968 in Goshen, Indiana, to Charles Thomas and Carol Ann (Williams) Hines. Scotty spent the majority of his life in Burr Oak, with the exception of three years he lived in Tennessee.

Scotty was most recently employed at Sam’s Tire Service in Bristol, Indiana. Prior to that, he worked for Style Line Corporation in Sturgis, where he served as both a painter and night shift supervisor. Known for his strong work ethic and steady presence, he left a lasting impact on his coworkers.

He was baptized at Williams Chapel Church in Irons, Tennessee, and carried a deep appreciation for the outdoors and simple pleasures. Scotty found joy in coon hunting, ice and summer fishing, and relaxing on the patio watching deer and turkeys wander into the backyard. A heavy metal enthusiast, he also enjoyed attending concerts and was known for his unique bear collection. He and his sister Annita shared a special bond in raising baby raccoons, and he especially loved dog-sitting her beloved dogs, Katie and Charlie.

Scotty is lovingly remembered by his children: Alan Scott Hines II of Colon, Brittany Nicole Parks of Three Rivers, and Ashley (Lee) Maracle of White Pigeon; grandchildren: Brylee Parks, Lincoln Lemmehart, Adalynn Sorg, and Connor Sorg; his mother and stepfather, Carol Ann Speece and Al Portenga of Colon; his sister, Annita (Joey) Michielsen of Burr Oak; brothers: Thomas Hines of LaGrange, Indiana, and Lee (Bea) Smith of Sturgis; as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Hines.

In accordance with Scotty’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held at his home (407 W. Clinton St., Burr Oak) on Saturday, September 13th from 12:00 noon to 5:00 P.M.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Hackman Family Funeral Homes of Sturgis.
