The St. Joseph County Road Commission has announced the upcoming closure of a bridge in Mendon Township.
Agency officials said the Prairie Corners Road bridge – which crosses the St. Joseph River – is being replaced. Work on the project is expected to begin Monday.
Recreational use of the St. Joseph River during construction will be maintained throughout the project, with at least one span remaining open for passage through the area.
Meanwhile, road commission officials said a project involving a bridge in Burr Oak Township is complete. Repairs on the McKale Road bridge, between Hackman Road and Cowles Road, started in late August and were finished last week.

I am hoping that the new replacement bridge will maintain the current height over the river, in order allow passage of recreational boats and pontoons between the covered bridge and Mendon.
