Sweat-A-Thon raised money for teen suicide prevention

A recent fundraiser to benefit teen suicide prevention raised more than $10,000. Sturgis American Legion, in a partnership with Salvation Army in Sturgis, helped to make Christmas brighter for 25 local families. Members of the Legion prepared, packaged and donated 25 meals consisting of smoked turkey with all the fixings, then delivered them to Salvation Army for distribution.

A man who died after falling from a kayak into a southwestern Michigan river during a New Year’s Day excursion with friends has been identified as an Indiana man. Barn fire kills 300,000 hens at Otsego poultry farm

About 300,000 hens have died in a barn fire at a southwestern Michigan poultry farm. WWMT-TV reports that the blaze started about 11 a.m. Friday at the Otsego Township farm. The barn was destroyed. Northern Indiana officials say a woman whose minivan plunged into a retention pond, killing two of her three children, missed a curve on an icy road just before that crash.
