The village of Centreville is expected to have its own police department in place starting in mid-February. New canine unit on staff

The Coldwater Post of the Michigan State Police will soon have a new canine unit on staff. Trooper Jereme Miller and his German shepherd, Dakota, will begin their service after the new year. Aerial inspections to be completed

Indiana Michigan Power is expected to complete aerial inspections on its line towers in Southwest Michigan this week. The company has been conducting the inspections in central and western Indiana, and Kalamazoo and Cass counties in Michigan. Helicopters are being used by Due North Aviation, the company contracted to conduct the inspections.

It appears revenue will be on the plus side for state government when the books are closed on the 2013 fiscal year, which ended October 1st. The cause of a weekend fire that killed an 11-month-old girl remains under investigation by authorities from the Michigan State Police and the Sturgis Fire Department. Sentencing is scheduled

The man responsible for burning a Sturgis restaurant more than four years ago will be sentenced in St. Joseph County Circuit Court Feb. 7.
