Sturgis man dies in crash

A Sturgis man died last weekend following a one-vehicle crash on the Indiana Toll Road. Indiana State Police said troopers were called at 8:30 p.m. Saturday to an area near mile-marker 128 in LaGrange County. Development proposed for downtown Sturgis

A $9.1 million development featuring retail and residential components has been proposed for an area in downtown Sturgis. The plan was introduced at last week’s Sturgis City Commission meeting. Southwest Michigan Land Conservancy has announced the resumption of its Saturday Volunteer Workdays program. Arrest made in check fraud investigation

Sturgis police last week arrested a suspect connected to a ring of fraudulent checks distributed in the area. According to authorities, the suspect was arrested Wednesday following a several-days investigation. Officers obtained a warrant Thursday to conduct a search in the 400 block of East Congress Street. Officers found that a large number of fraudulent checks had been cashed across several counties. …

New commander for MSP in Marshall

First Lt. Barry Schrader took over last week as the new commander for the Michigan State Police post in Marshall. Schrader will command District 5, Region 4, after Lt.
