Fatal crash in Cass County

An Edwardsburg resident died in a crash shortly before 7:00 Monday evening. According to the Cass County Sheriff’s Department, 40-year-old Jennifer Johnson was westbound on Calvin Hill Street, when she lost control of her vehicle and struck a tree, causing a fatal injury. A seat belt was worn. Road conditions were slick at the time of the accident.

Authorities say two people were found dead following a fire in northern Indiana. Crews responded early Sunday to a 911 call reporting a fire in Elkhart County, near Goshen. Supreme court declines to hear sports complex appeal

Police investigate Sherman Township burglary

A Sherman Township residence was forcibly entered and burglarized last week. Sheriff’s deputies were called around 9:30 p.m. Thursday to the 63000 block of East Fish Lake Road. A number of items were taken, though a full inventory was not indicated in a department media release. The manner through which access to the residence was gained was not mentioned, either.

Unemployment rate down in county

November’s unemployment rate in St. Joseph County was six-tenths of a percent lower than the previous month. The monthly labor-market analysis by the Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget showed the county’s 3.6 percent November unemployment rate marked a decrease from October’s 4.2 percent. St. Joseph County was below the state unemployment average, which was 4 percent in November. …

Police are investigating the deaths of an 81-year-old man and his 55-year-old daughter after their bodies were found inside a cold southwestern Michigan home.
