The Sturgis Housing Development Corporation has followed through on its decision to sell a South Nottawa Street property that may result in its demolition, despite neighborhood objections. Arrests made with help from Sturgis K-9

Sturgis police officers in the past week have benefitted twice from the department’s K-9 officer, Tuckey. According to a department media release, Tuckey was brought to a traffic stop at 7 p.m. July 19 at St. Joseph and Clay streets. Officers were suspicious of two male suspects and Tuckey’s search alerted officers to the presence of narcotics inside the vehicle. …

A sign proclaiming the identity of St. Joseph County’s most notable icon was destroyed following a pair of incidents the past two weeks. 7-year-old boy dies trying to help friend at Michigan lake

Authorities say a 7-year-old boy has died trying to help an 11-year-old friend who struggled while swimming in a lake in western Michigan. The Ottawa County sheriff’s department says a dive team found the boy, identified as Natanael Escobar, in Crockery Lake in Chester Township on Sunday evening. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
