J. Irving Grove, 95, of Hicksville died Monday July 13, 2009 at Hickory Creek at Hicksville, Ohio.
He was born August 11, 1913 the son of Dana Cass and Anna (Harris) Grove at Clinton County Michigan.
He graduated from Fowler High School in 1931.
In the late 1930’s he was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps. He planted trees in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. He then entered the Army Air Corps as a radio technician. During WWII he was stationed at airfields in Burma. After the war he became a broadcast radio engineer for various radio stations in Michigan, including WLKM.
In June of 1949 he was united in marriage to Beverly Kirtland. She survives him along with (2) sons, Dana (Marion) Clarkson-Grove – Weybridge, Surrey, UK and Bill (Mary) Grove – Granger, IN; (3) daughters, Shirley (Ken) Penokie- Escanaba, MI, Anna (Lynn) Bender – Zainesville, IN and Carol (Dave) Cleland – Hicksville, OH; (13) grandchildren, (9) great granddaughters and (1) great grandson; a daughter-in- law, Linda Grove of Louisville, KY and a sister- in- law, Ruthann Westra-Desert Palm, CA.
He was preceded in death by a son, David Grove; an infant sister; a brother, Lynn Grove; (2) sisters-in- law Beatrice Grove and Shirley Schawe.
There is no visitation or services scheduled. Smith & Brown Funeral Home is serving the family.
