Corey Eckert, 38

Corey Lee Eckert, 38, of Sturgis, passed away early Tuesday morning, Jan. 4, 2011, at his home.

He was born Nov. 16, 1972, in Sturgis, a son of Ted and Carolyn (Clark) Eckert.

Corey had resided his whole life in the Sturgis area and graduated from Sturgis High School with the class of 1992.

On Dec., 1, 2001, he married Christina Whitsel in Sturgis.

Most of Corey’s working life was involved in the truck and van conversation and trailer manufacturing industries working for Centurion Conversions in Centreville and Classic Manufacturing in White Pigeon.

Corey was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Burr Oak. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge #1314 and Captain John J. Kelley Post #1355 VFW Auxiliary. He enjoyed computers, reading and loved his cat.

He is survived by his loving wife, Christina; his parents, Ted and Carolyn Eckert of Burr Oak,; two brothers, Robert (Jane) Eckert of Colon and Brad (Shawn) Eckert of Burr Oak; a grandmother, Bernice Clark of Centreville; an aunt, Pat Blosser of Burr Oak; an uncle, Phil Clark of Centreville; his mother-in-law, Carol Whitsel of Sturgis; his cat, Puss; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, William Clark and Carl and Lenora Eckert; and his brother-in-law, Ronnie Whitsel.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Hackman Family Funeral Homes — Hackman Chapel, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis.

Funeral services celebrating the life of Corey Eckert will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. The Rev. Kurt Kuhlmann of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sturgis will officiate. In accordance with his wishes, cremation will follow the service.
