St. Joseph County’s Board of Commissioners voted this week to a variety of agriculture-related services offered by the Michigan State University Extension.
Following action Tuesday, Dr. Dale Mutch, an agriculture and agribusiness institute extension educator from Michigan State University Extension Office, will join the county. Mutch is a senior extension educator of sustainable agriculture.
Meanwhile, approval was given to hire a full-time MSU Extension program instructor within the agriculture and agribusiness institute. The person to fill the position will be charged with providing research and educational resources, and news of emerging issues, to St. Joseph County farmers.
The action came Tuesday, when commissioners amended a Dec. 6 agreement.
County officials said $53,400 will cover 60 percent of the cost of the agriculture and agribusiness institute extension director.
