Upgrading Power Poles

Indiana Michigan Power Co. has announced that work on the upgrade of power poles and lines from Park Township to Sturgis Township is expected to get started by the end of next month.

The Fort Wayne, Ind.-based company said the 14-mile improvement is in addition to an eight-mile line improvement between Schoolcraft and the Moorepark neighborhood. That project is slated to begin within the next six weeks.

Company officials said a mild winter has allowed advance crews to prepare for the removal of wooden poles and replace them with steel poles.

Some sections of the infrastructure being replaced are 60 years old.

The Three Rivers-to-Sturgis route begins near a quarry by M-60 at the Waste Management site, and cuts southeast to Sturgis Township, where it will end near U.S. 12 and Stubey Road.
