Fair is in the books

The 163rd St. Joseph County Grange Fair is in the books, and organizers of the annual event said they expect attendance to be slightly down from 2012.

Bill Younts, president of the fair board, said periods of rain during portions of three days of the seven-day fair may have kept prospective guests at bay. A shower Friday evening, he said, was especially detrimental to attendance.

The fair did end on a high note, however, as the busiest day of the fair was Saturday. The headline concert by Josh Turner and opening act Kix Brooks helped boost Saturday’s overall attendance.

Younts said the fair board meets Oct. 14 and its members will review the 2013 fair, and start looking toward its 2014 edition.
