A northern Indiana sheriff’s department has written nearly 60 traffic tickets to Norfolk Southern so far this month over stopped freight trains blocking intersections. Officials and residents say the trains are often stopped for a couple hours or more on the rail line through the Elkhart County town of Dunlap. The Goshen News and The Elkhart Truth report county officers had issued 57 tickets with possible $500 fines against the railroad as of Wednesday since Oct. 1. WNDU-TV reports stopped Norfolk Southern trains are also causing troubles in areas west of South Bend. Norfolk Southern officials say it has been moving more trains across northern Indiana but the trains must sometimes stop when their crews reach their legal limits for working hours. (AP)
