Former head of county vets office charged with embezzlement

The former director of Calhoun County’s Veterans Affairs office has been named in a warrant charging three counts of embezzlement.

Prosecutor David Gilbert authorized the charges Wednesday morning.

Gilbert wouldn’t release the name of the person charged, but said about $42,000 is believed to have been taken from people seeking assistance with disability benefits.

He said the man is expected to surrender to authorities.

District court documents show that Scott Losey is named in a warrant. Losey resigned earlier this year from the $64,000-a-year job.

Emails released by the southern Michigan county show people were asked for cash and other favors. Losey has denied any wrongdoing, saying the emails were jokes or taken out of context.  (AP)
