Violet Lahr, 87

Violet Marie Lahr, 87, of Centreville, passed away Saturday, Sept. 5, 2015 at Fairview Nursing and Rehabilitation Community in Centreville.

Violet was born Oct. 27, 1927 in Colon Twp. a daughter to the late Frank and Mae (Castle) Bailey.

Violet grew up in Colon, graduating from Colon High School with the Class of 1945. She continued her education receiving her Nursing Degree from Community Hospital Schools, with the Army Air Corps Class of 1948 in Battle Creek.

On Dec. 31, 1947 she married William Lahr Sr. in Howe, Ind. He preceded her in death on Aug. 15, 2014 after 66 years of marriage.

Violet had worked as a nurse at Three Rivers Hospital, area nursing homes and had been Director of Nursing at Froh’s Nursing Home, now known as Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis.

She is survived by two daughters, Diana K. (Lowell) Wenger of Elkhart, Ind. and Nancy (Richard) Hassenger of Three Rivers; two sons, William J. (Jan) Lahr Jr. of Madison, Wis. and Steve R. (Jill) Lahr of Elkhart, Ind.; eight grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a brother, Frank Bailey and sister, Julia Miller.

The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, Sept. 9 from 1-2 p.m. at the Schipper Funeral Home LTD. in Colon. Funeral services celebrating the life of Violet Marie Lahr will then be held at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Tim Moore of Bethany Chapel in Three Rivers officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeside Cemetery in Colon. If desired the family suggests memorials be made in memory of Violet to the Alzheimer’s Society. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
