Kiwanis Showboat is back in Mendon

A musical tribute to the calendar year will be the focus of the 59th annual Mendon Kiwanis Showboat.

The musical and comedy stage show begins the first of its three-day run tonight at Mendon Elementary School. Showtime is 7:30 nightly.

Co-producers Kathy Pendergrass, Donna Dunlap and Rod Wall said the theme “It’s A Good Year” yielded an abundance of musical opportunities to coincide with holidays and seasons.

Pendergrass said there were obvious selections – including “Singin’ In The Rain” – that fit perfectly in the April repertoire, for example. Other songs and jokes are related to vacation, sports and back to school.

Organizers said the cast includes about 45 people, and also features a few newcomers. In all, the event is expected to include 15 musical performances, including solos, duos and small groups.

Tickets are $8 in advance and available at several downtown businesses, as well as from any Kiwanis member. Tickets at the door cost $10.
