Roads Committee has been formed

St. Joseph County Board of Commissioners Chairman Allen Balog has assembled a six-person panel, called the Roads Committee, whose members will strive to improve roads throughout the county, according to a memo Balog distributed during Tuesday’s county commission meeting.
A summary Balog provided states that the purpose of the Roads Committee is “to establish mutually acceptable responsibility and cooperation between the St. Joseph County Road Commission, townships, and the county board of commissioners.”
The memo adds: “Our goal is to get everyone on the same page and move forward as quickly as possible to improve our roads in St. Joseph County through this collaboration.”
The commission is comprised of Balog; county commissioner Don Eaton; road commission members Dave Allen and Eric Shafer; Fabius Township Supervisor John Kroggel; and Colon Township Supervisor Sandy Jackson.

  1. So the County Commission has appointed a 6 member committee “to establish mutually acceptable responsibility and cooperation between the St. Joseph County Road Commission, townships, and the county board of commissioners.” Isn’t that responsibility of the 5 Road Commissioners, who incidentally are already all appointed by the County Commission?

I suppose when the “Road Committee” comes to the same realization as the Road Commissioners that there is not enough funding to meet the demands of the public, they will have to appoint a “Oversight Board” to better coordinate the Road Committee, Road Commission, County Commission, and Townships?
