After dropping a 3-2 contest against the Wheeling Nailers (24-15-5-0)on Friday night, ending their five-game winning streak, the Kalamazoo Wings (22-19-1-3) got back on track Saturday with a 5-2 victory over the Toledo Walleye (32-11-1-1).
After a scoreless first period, the Walleye scored the first goal of the game midway into the second period.
Tyson Spink scored his 21st of the season on an odd-man rush. Evan Rankin and Tylor Spink earned the assists.
.Returning the favor just three minutes later, the K-Wings tied the game on a goal by Blake Kessel, his 10th of the season.
With the Kessel goal, the floodgates opened for the K-Wings as they reeled off four more goals in a span of twelve minutes.
Josh Pitt scored his fifth of the season just over two minutes later to give the K-Wings a 2-1 lead.
The K-Wings continued their goal-scoring barrage into the third period. Pitt scored his second of the night to give the K-Wings a two-goal lead five minutes into the final period.
Just 42 seconds after the Pitt goal, Lane Scheidl got into the act as he scored his 17th of the season, which ties his career high for goals in a season, giving the K-Wings a 4-1 lead.
Kyle Bushee scored his fifth of the year just a few minutes later on a long-range wrist shot for a 5-1 K-Wing advantage.
The Walleye added a goal with just under ten seconds remaining the in game, but the K-Wings came away with a decisive 5-2 victory.
The K-Wings head to Moline, Illinois to take on the Quad City Mallards on Friday. On Saturday, the K-Wings return home to host the Indy Fuel at 7:00 pm on Arcade Night. The K-Wings will be wearing 8-bit jerseys. On Sunday, the Fort Wayne Komets come to town for the first of three-straight meetings with the K-Wings on Superhero day. Spiderman, Superman and Batman will be in attendance. Game time is 3:00 pm.
