The Kalamazoo Wings season is officially over as the Toledo Walleye defeated the K-Wings 3-1 in Game 7 of the Central Division Semi-Finals on Tuesday night at the Huntington Center.
After a scoreless first period which saw the K-Wings outshooting the Walleye 13-9, the two teams exchanged goals in the second period.
Toledo hit the scoreboard first on a Kyle Bonis goal 16:11 into the middle stanza. Striking back quickly, Charlie Vasaturo tied the game just under a minute later with his second of the postseason. Kyle Blaney and Tyler Biggs assisted on the goal.
The third period belonged to the Walleye. Scoring two goals in under a minute, the Walleye took an untouchable 3-1 lead. Evan Rankin and Zach Nastasiuk scored for the Walleye.
K-Wing goaltender Joel Martin stopped 28 out of the 31 shots he faced. The K-Wings came up empty on their single power play. Toledo was unable to score on their four power plays.
The Walleye will take on the Fort Wayne Komets beginning this Friday night in the Central Division Finals.
K-Wing forward Justin Taylor missed the game due to injuries he sustained in the game on Sunday. Taylor was hit in the face by a puck and was taken to the hospital. Taylor suffered facial fractures.
