Two injured in Cass County crash

Two elderly passengers were hospitalized for back and neck pain after the vehicle they were in was rear-ended over the weekend in Cass County’s Mason Township.

Sheriff Richard Behnke said deputies were called shortly before 12:30 Saturday afternoon to U.S. 12 at Cassopolis Road, in response to the two-vehicle incident.

According to authorities, 65-year-old Robert Postma of Elkhart was stopped on at the intersection when his vehicle was struck by a car driven by 19-year-old Jacob Borsman of Fayetteville, W.Va.

Teresa Sapen, 67, and Robert Postma Sr., 90, both of Elkhart, were taken to Elkhart General Hospital for treatment.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor and seat belts were used, according to authorities.
