Committee members charged with recommending a candidate to the St. Joseph County Commission On Aging Board reached an impasse, meaning the spot will be left unfilled for the time being.
County commissioners at Wednesday’s executive committee meeting said the three candidates interviewed within the past week each brought their own, unique strengths. In the end, Commissioner Dan Czajkowski said, the committee was unable to come to a consensus.
Nottawa Township’s Judy Nelson, Constantine-area resident Nancy Stears and Burr Oak Township resident Don Eaton were the candidates considered to what had been an 11-member board. Eaton was the incumbent member but commissioners decided to gauge interest from other potential candidates before reappointing him or choosing someone else to the two-year seat.
County administrator Teresa Doehring said the deadlock in selecting someone to serve on such an advisory board isn’t unprecedented. In past circumstances, she said, the seat is left open and any interest over time from someone wishing to fill it is considered.
