Man arrested after fleeing police

Sturgis police arrested a man wanted on a warrant and for attempting to flee from officers.

According to a department media release, officers noticed a man walking along West Street shortly after 6:30 p.m. Aug. 3. Officers were aware that the man was wanted on a felony warrant and they made an attempt to question him.

The man fled on foot despite attempts by officers to follow him from their vehicle and later on foot.

He entered a room at Maplecrest Motel and, with the help of motel residents, he was found and taken into custody.

He was charged with resisting and obstructing, possession of drug paraphernalia, as well as the felony warrant.
