Man arrested after attempting vehicle theft

An Indiana man was arrested earlier this week after breaking into a residence and attempting to steal a vehicle in White Pigeon Township.

State police said a resident in the 78000 block of Eagley Road was awakened at 6:35 a.m. Sunday after hearing a noise in the garage.

The 68-year-old homeowner found an unknown male in the passenger compartment of his pickup truck, attempting to break the ignition to steal it. The unknown male fled the residence on foot.

White Pigeon Police Department Chief Bill Burgoyne and K-9 “Zar” tracked the suspect to a tree line north east of the residence. The suspect, a 31-year-old man from Syracuse, Ind., was taken into custody and charged with breaking and entering, possession of burglary tools, attempted motor vehicle theft and possession of marijuana.
