Icy roads caused crash in Cass County

A Berrien County man this week lost control of his vehicle due to icy roads, resulting in a two-vehicle accident in Cass County’s Penn Township.

Sheriff Richard Behnke said deputies were called around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday to M-60 near Calvin Center Road, where a car driven by 67-year-old Miguel Guerrero had lost control and his vehicle slid across the centerline, into the path of a car driven by 62-year-old Rebecca Jo Jellison, of Cassopolis.

Both parties were trapped in their vehicles and required the services of Penn Township rescue personnel. Guerrero was transported to Lakeland Hospital in Niles; Jellison was taken to Elkhart General Hospital.

Authorities said seatbelts were worn and alcohol is not suspected as a factor in the incident.
