Justin Taylor set a record and Dylan Sadowy continued scoring goals as the Kalamazoo Wings (2-1-0-0) defeated the Fort Wayne Komets (2-2-0-0) on Wednesday night at Wings Event Center by a score of 6-4.
Taylor, in his tenth season with the K-Wings, set a new franchise record by playing in his 496th game with the team.
The Komets Brady Shaw scored the first goal of the night midway into the opening period. It didn’t take the K-Wings long to answer back and then take the lead as they scored a pair of goals in the next five minutes.
Sadowy, who scored the game tying and game-winning goal on Saturday night, put the K-Wings on the board minutes after the Komet goal.
Later in the period, while on the power play, Taylor scored the apparent go-ahead goal, but was not officially ruled a goal until a video review by the officials
Tying the game up before the period was over, Mason Bergh scored for the Komets.
Adding a pair of goals in the first half of the second period, Luke Sandler and Tanner Sorenson both scored their first goals of the year, to make it a 4- 2 game.
Brad Morrison pulled the Komets to within one with his first of the season to make it a 4-3 contest heading into the final period.
Regaining their two-goal lead, Sadowy struck for his fourth goal in two games but the Komets brought it back to within one on a Matthew Boudens goal.
Sorenson sealed the victory with an empty net goal in the final minute of play for a final score of 6-4.
Jake Hildebrand was in goal for the K-Wings stopping 33 of the 37 shots he faced for his second straight win.
Next up for the K-Wings will be the annual Orange Ice Game this Saturday night at 7 PM as they host the Tulsa Oilers. The team will be wearing special Halloween jersey’s which will be auctioned off after the game. Fans young and old are encouraged to wear their costumes and there will be trick-or-treating around the concourse before the game. A costume contest will be held during the game.
