While the situation regarding large scale sporting events remains in limbo, the Kalamazoo Wings and the ECHL are moving forward with plans for the 2020-21 hockey season.
The K-Wings released their home schedule for their 47th season of professional hockey.
The 72-game season consists of 36 home and 36 away games.
The home opener will kick off on October 17th at 7:00 PM when they host the Brampton Beast.
Out of the 36 home games, 30 of them will be played on the weekend with 11 games being played on Friday, 11 games on Saturday and eight on Sunday. In addition to battling their division foes at Wings Event Center: Cincinnati, Toledo, Fort Wayne, Indy and Wheeling, the K-Wings will also play host to Adirondak (once), Brampton (twice), Idaho (three times) and Wichita (once).
The K-Wings also announced that they will be one of two opponents to play the Toledo Walleye outdoors at Fifth Third Field during Winterfest.
The game will take place on December 26th at 6:00 PM.
“We are very excited to participate in Winterfest with the Walleye for the second time,” said K-Wings Governor and Director of Hockey Operations, Toni Lentini-Daniels in a press release. “The close proximity between Kalamazoo and Toledo allows our fan base to experience something unique and special.”
The K-Wings played in the first-ever outdoor game in the ECHL on December 27, 2014 in front of 11, 222 fans at Fifth Third Field. The K-Wings won the game 2-1. Current assistant coach, Joel Martin, was in net for the K-Wings, stopping 22 shots in the contest.
The Indy Fuel will play in the second game on December 31st at 6:00 PM.
