County commission discusses personnel changes

A few personnel matters were addressed this week by the St. Joseph County Board of Commissioners.

During their executive committee meeting Wednesday, commissioners first heard from Friend of the Court Bill Thistlethwaite. He reminded them of his impending March retirement to cap off a career that spanned more than 30 years in St. Joseph County.

Thistlethwaite said he and deputy Mary Herendeen have been asked by probate court judge David Tomlinson to spearhead the search for a new Friend of the Court. But another staffing issue centered on the upcoming retirement of Sheila Clancy, a 24-year employee currently serving as caseworker.

Thistlewaite said Amanda Treat, a judicial clerk, would replace Clancy. In turn Treat’s position would need to be filled by an outside source.

County administrator Teresa Doehring said because the positions are not supported through the county’s general fund, no authorization was necessary. But, she noted, Thistlethwaite’s update was more of a courtesy to the five-member commission.
