Rooted receives donation while event canceled

Due to the COVID- 19 pandemic, an annual event to benefit St. Joseph County children has been called off, but the organizations and businesses involved have still provided a donation to help the cause.

The joint efforts of Sturgis Elks, Sturgis Kwanis, Key Club, Willer’s shoes and Ayres Insurance, led to a donation to Rooted of St. Joseph County, for the purchase of boots and weather-appropriate items.

The participants typically join together to host a “Boots and Shoes” evening that includes dinner and a children’s visit with Santa, where they receive a gift, hat and gloves, and a trip to Willer’s for socks and a new pair of boots or shoes.

Rooted works to support children and families, and offer relief during transitions of home removal to foster and relative placements.
