Rodney Clair “Rod” Decker, age 59, of Schoolcraft, died Monday, Jan. 4, 2021 at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo. He was born in Vicksburg on Nov. 23, 1961 the son of Allan R. and Geraldine M. (Spealman) Decker and was a lifetime resident of Kalamazoo County. He graduated from Vicksburg High School with the class of 1979 and later attended Kalamazoo Valley Community College. As a young man he engaged in general farming and later worked at Portage Steel. For the past 25 years he had been employed at TDA Buddy in Kalamazoo. Rod was a member of the NRA and enjoyed target shooting. He was a MOPAR car enthusiast and looked forward to trips Up North for ice fishing and snowmobiling.
Rod was married to Christine Shelton on Sep. 23, 2016 in Portage. She survives along with three sons, Timothy Harger of Schoolcraft, Christopher Harger of Portage, and Aaron Harger of Schoolcraft; five grandchildren, Nathaniel, Ian, Avery, Joel, and Livia; two sisters, Tammy Decker of Fulton and Karla (Bill) Hodge of Troutman, NC; a brother, Mark Decker of Vicksburg; nephew, Thomas (Rebecca) Decker of Troutman, NC; niece, Jessica (Jeremy) Shepherd of Ft. Mill, SC; and best friend, Brian (Dorothea) Williams of Allegan. He was preceded in death by his parents, Al and Jerry Decker.
The family will receive friends from 11 am to 1 pm Friday Jan. 8, 2021 at the Connections Community Church, 11500 US-131, Schoolcraft, MI 49087. Funeral services will begin at 1 pm Friday at the church with Pastor Dave Sanders officiating, followed by burial in Boughton Cemetery. It is suggested that memorial donations may be directed to the National Rifle Association Foundation at email@example.com. COVID restrictions require facemasks and social distancing with a 25% occupancy rate at the church. Arrangements were entrusted to the Eickhoff Funeral Home of Mendon.
