Man arrested after breaking in to home

A Washtenaw County man was arrested after he broke into a residence in Branch County’s Girard Township.

State police troopers were contacted around 1 a.m. Monday regarding a home invasion in the 200 block of Hawley Center Drive.

The victim told investigators he awoke by a sound outside his residence, and noticed a man had entered his vehicle and appeared to be attempting to steal various items.

The homeowner, armed with a legal handgun, confronted the 25-year-old Saline man. The suspect became aggressive and claimed to be the rightful resident. The suspect managed to enter the residence but the homeowner was able to get the suspect out of his home without using the firearm.

The suspect admitted he had used methamphetamines prior to the incident.
