Constantine – No change to recreational marijuana ordinance

Recreational marijuana facilities will continue operating in Constantine, as voters decided Tuesday to support a measure retaining that option.

By a margin of 396 to 74, voters opposed a request that would have amended two sections of the village ordinance related to the issue. The amended ordinance would have banned all components of recreational marijuana.

In essence, the 396 “no” votes mean there will not be a change to the ordinance.

Tuesday’s vote does not impact medical-marijuana operations, which will remain business as usual in the village.

At the moment, the village has issued seven recreational licenses. Three are grows, one is a processing facility and three are vendors. The Dude Abides is the only recreational business currently, though others are likely going to jump aboard as a result of Tuesday’s vote, The Dude Abides owner Cass Root said.

A group called Citizens Committee to Repeal the Recreational Marijuana Ordinance, formed in September and supported a “yes” vote in favor of amending the ordinance.

  1. Evidently the Citizens Committee to Repeal the Recreational Marijuana Ordinance didn’t really include many citizens. But thanks to your BS you have now wasted taxpayer money on a vote that lost 80-20. Come on people – I know that being an obstructionist is key to you Republicans but then next time use your own money for this foolishness.
