County commission approves hiring freeze exceptions

St. Joseph County Board of Commissioners tied up a few loose ends last week.

First, commissioner Kathy Pangle said a major project centering on roof repair at the Three Rivers Commission on Aging facility has been completed.

In addition, water-caused damaged in the atrium has been repaired, she said.

Next, commissioners approved exceptions to the hiring freeze regarding two positions. The first, director of community corrections, pays $67,000 annually. The salary is fully funded by a grant from the Michigan Department of Corrections.

The other position was requested by treasurer Kathy Humphreys, who was seeking a deputy treasurer. Salary for the job is about $65,000.
