Fundraiser for CPR machines in the county

A fundraising effort is underway to purchase automated CPR machines for all EMS departments in St. Joseph County.

Spearheaded by Jeff Brazo, a member of the Burr Oak Community Fire and Rescue Board, the fundraiser goal is $200,000 by Sept. 1.

Brazo said automatic CPR machines can aid responders in performing consistent and effective CPR with fewer staff on site and allow other department staff to tend to additional duties.

He said the fundraiser will provide automatic CPR machines for departments that currently do not have one, and to have an ongoing fund to support the future costs of service, parts and replacement of machines.

The St. Joseph County United Way has agreed to coordinate fund raising efforts and stewardship of the funds.

More information can be obtained by contacting the St. Joseph County United Way office at 467-9099 or Brazo at 689-0200.
