City considers new police chief

Three Rivers City Manager Joe Bippus has announced the potential hiring of a new chief of police.

With the retirement of longtime chief Tom Bringman, the city is poised to agree to a contract with Ronald “Scott” Boling.

The announcement was made Friday. Boling’s hiring is contingent on action by the city commission at its meeting Tuesday.

Bippus said Boling has agreed to terms of the contract. Boling has a long history in police work, most recently joining Schoolcraft as its chief last year.

Prior to serving as Schoolcraft chief, Boling completed 25 years of law-enforcement work with the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety. He also has more than two decades of experience as a firefighter and medical first responder.

A veteran of the United States Marine Corps, Boling will earn a starting salary of $80,000 a year, Bippus said.

  1. Ah yes Joe. Hire your current boss in Schoolcraft. Just curious how many candidates they interviewed. One?
