Report from the county commissioners meeting

During Tuesday’s county commission meeting, commissioner Jared Hoffmaster said the five-county Southwest Michigan Solid Waste Consortium has been dissolved. He said St. Joseph County, however, will continue to keep its own Solid Waste Committee.

On an unrelated note, Hoffmaster said the St. Joseph County Transportation Board is in need of members. The board meets the third Tuesday of the month. He said the seven-member board is currently short two members.

Finally, commissioner Ken Malone said all park facilities have been winterized. Parks and Recreation staff members will spend the winter focusing on a lengthy list of maintenance projects, he noted.

Commissioners set their next meeting for 5 p.m. Jan. 4, at which time they will select a chairman and vice-chair for 2022, as well as formally set meeting time and dates for the calendar year.
