Deano Sunken, 81

Dean C. “Deano” Sunken, age 81, of Sturgis, passed away early Saturday evening, March 12, 2022 at his home.
He was born November 11, 1940 in Frost, Minnesota son of the late Sute and Opal (Kleindle) Sunken.
Deano resided in Sturgis the past 20 years coming from LaGrange County, Indiana and his early life was spent in Frost, Minnesota.
On September 10, 1964 he married Merdis Hauge in Blue Earth, Minnesota. She preceded him in death July 1, 1990.
Most of Dean’s working life was in maintenance. For many years he was employed as a sewing machine mechanic at Artisan Interiors in Middlebury.
Deano was proud to have served his country in the U.S. Army as a tank mechanic from 1958 – 1960 earning the rank of Private.
He was a member of LaGrange American Post #215, Captain John J. Kelley Post #1355 VFW, Loyal Order of Moose #574 and Eagles Lodge #1314. Dean loved playing cards and will be missed at the Saturday afternoon Euchre table at the Sturgis Sturgis VFW and he enjoyed throwing darts and pitching horseshoes.
He is survived by two daughters: Sheri (John) Byrer of Lake George, Fremont, Indiana and Nicole (Jeffery) Mullins of Sturgis; one son: Shane Sunken of Greencastle, Indiana; six grandchildren: Brian (Brian Stambaugh) Collins, Kristyn Collins, Casey Byrer, Kiera Mullins, Kobe Mullins and Treston Sunken; one great grandson: Hudson Mullins; one brother: Garry Sunken of Blue Earth, Minnesota and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one sister and three brothers.
In accordance with his wishes cremation has taken place. A gathering of family and friends to celebrate and honor the life of Dean C. “Deano” Sunken will take place from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Friday, March 25th at VFW Post #1355 in Sturgis. At 6:00 P.M. full military honors will be conferred by Captain John J. Kelley Post #1355 VFW Honor Guard and the U.S. Army Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations would be appreciated to Captain John J. Kelley Post #1355 VFW, 264 W. Fawn River Rd., Sturgis, MI 49091.
