Dennis A. Sturgis, Sr., age 85, of Sturgis, passed away Thursday, March 24, 2022 with his family at his side.
He was born March 17, 1937 in Sturgis, son of the late Arthur and Arlene (Kraft) Sturgis.
He was a lifelong Sturgis resident and graduate of Sturgis High School with the class of 1955.
On December 5, 1959 he married Shirley VonOlnhausen in Sturgis.
Denny was a talented builder, owning Denny Sturgis Construction for many years.
He had a love for the outdoors especially when he was pursuing game with his longbow. He was a member of the Professional Bowhunters Society, Michigan Traditional Bowhunters, Michigan Longbow Association and Michigan Bow Hunters. He was an avid and loyal fan of Michigan sports especially the Michigan State Spartans and the University of Michigan Wolverines and of course Tom Brady.
He is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of 62 years, Shirley; son: Dennis A. (Marie) Sturgis, Jr. of Colon; daughter: Debra S. Sturgis of Sherwood; grandchildren: Jessica (her fiancée: Shawn Miks) Pasco of Colorado, Shirley (Jay) Selby of Colorado, John (Kelsey) Sturgis of Grand Rapids, Gabriel Sturgis of Colon, Zach Sturgis of Colon and Alexa Sturgis of Bronson; three great grandchildren: Virginia Sturgis, Johnny Sturgis and Bella Selby; sister-in-law, Dorothy Fennell, of LaGrange, Indiana, cousin Gloria (David) Bouschor of Duluth, Minnesota, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother: John Sturgis.
In accordance with his wishes cremation has taken place and no services are planned.
The family would like to extend special thanks to all his buddies who stopped in, called, and kept track of him.

The family asks in lieu of flowers or memorial donations you take time to do something that Denny would like such as take a walk in nature, feed and watch the birds, pet a dog, go hunting, or read a good book.
