Ruth Harker, 93

Ruth W. Harker, age 93, of Sturgis, passed away Sunday afternoon, July 3, 2022 at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis.
She was born February 7, 1929 in Berlin, Germany daughter of the late Willi and Walli (Hergesen) Wagner.
Mrs. Harker came to the United States in 1946 from Germany. She took great pride in obtaining her U.S. Citizenship June 21, 1955. She resided in Sturgis since 1979 and had also lived in Battle Creek, South Bend, and North Hollywood, California.
During WWII while living in Berlin, Germany she met a U.S. Army soldier by the name of Richard D. “Don” Harker. He was able to sway her to come to the United States and on August 3, 1946 the couple married in Battle Creek. He preceded her in death February 7, 2019.
Ruth was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker.
She was a life member of Captain John J. Kelley Post #1355 VFW Auxiliary and past member of the Eagles Lodge #1314. Ruth enjoyed going to casinos and shopping and loved dancing and time spent with her family.
She is survived by three daughters: Shirley (Larry) Carter of Zephyrhills, Florida, Donna (Charles) Rogers of Battle Creek, and Joyce (Fred) Mazzoni of Sturgis; one son: Rick (Michelle) Harker of Lulu, Florida; son-in-law: Tom Dibble of Sturgis; 16 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and daughter: Rosemarie Dibble.
In accordance with her wishes cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Monday, August 8th at the Hackman Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 114 S. Nottawa St. in Sturgis. Burial of the remains will take place at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta.
