Fatal crash in Steuben County, Indiana

Two people, including a former White Pigeon resident, died in a two-vehicle crash last week in Steuben County, Ind.

Sheriff’s deputies said the incident occurred shortly before 4 p.m. Friday on State Road 120, near the community of Orland.

Authorities said a Nissan Titan pickup driven by 50-year-old Donald Gene Squires, of Howe, was heading west when it went left of the center line and into the path of an eastbound Volkswagen.

The front-seat passenger of the Volkswagen, Breanna Bright, age 33, of Fremont, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, her husband, 43-year-old Lonnie Bright, formerly of White Pigeon, died later at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne.

Their two children, who were secured in child-safety seats in the back seat, were taken to Parkview. Five-year-old Journey Bright remains hospitalized in critical condition and 3-month-old Granger Bright has been released.

Squires suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene.
