Carl Marks, Jr., 84

Carl Joseph Marks, Jr., age 84, of Sturgis, passed away Wednesday evening, September 7, 2022 at the Sparrow House in Sturgis.

He was born October 13, 1937 in LaGrange, son of the late Carl J. and Margaret (Adair) Marks, Sr.

Carl resided in Sturgis for the past 54 years coming from California. His early life was lived in LaGrange, where he was a graduate of LaGrange High School with the class of 1955.

On June 16, 1956 he married Gloria R. Keyser at the Mount Zion Lutheran Church in LaGrange. She preceded him in death April 14, 2017.

Carl retired from Burr Oak Tool in Sturgis following 33 years of dedicated service.

He was a member of the Radiant Life in Sturgis

Carl was proud to have served his country in the U.S. Marine Corp from June 26, 1956 – April 26, 1958 earning the rank of Corporal. He enjoyed bass fishing and participated in areas bass tournaments of several years. He loved time with the “Lunch Bunch” group and attending sporting events, especially the sports his grandchildren were involved in.

He is survived by one daughter: Lori (Charles) Bennett of Sturgis; one son: Kenneth (Cheryl) Marks of Elkhart, Indiana; three grandchildren: Shawna Klotz of Elkhart, Indiana, Drew Marks of Kansas City, Missouri and Chad Bennett of Sturgis; one great grandchild: Fynley Klotz; one brother: Frank Marks of Ohio; special friend: Sharon Bowman of Sturgis and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, four sisters: Dorothy Lance, Doris King, Ruth Ann Bolander and Margaret Toth and half-sister: Irene Shoup.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Monday at the Hackman Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 114 S. Nottawa St. in Sturgis. Funeral services celebrating the life of Carl J. Marks, Jr. will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday at the Radiant Life Church, 907 N. Nottawa St. in Sturgis. Pastor Ryan Bibb will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the service at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis. Full military honors will be conferred by Captain John J. Kelley Post #1355 VFW and the U.S. Marine Corp Honor Guards.
