Grant will provide free rides during Sturgis Fest

A grant provided through the Sturgis Area Community Foundation and the Sturgis Youth Advisory Council will result in free amusement rides during this summer’s Sturgis Fest.

The foundation, accompanied by YAC representatives, presented a check Friday for $4,500 to the Sturgis Area Chamber of Commerce, which chamber officials said will be used at Sturgis Fest to help with costs associated with the event’s family night rides.

The YAC exists to practice youth philanthropy and to be a voice for its peers. Members of Sturgis YAC volunteer at Sturgis Fest each year, and donate their time through various community-service projects.

The central role of the YAC is to recommend grants to the board of the Sturgis Area Community Foundation for various youth-based projects and programs.
