Dora B. Plummer, age 79, of Mendon, died Monday, August 14, 2023 at Birch Meadows in Three Rivers. She was born in El Salvadore on February 13, 1944 the daughter of Leonardo and Debora (Escobar) Colette. She came to the United States to live with family at the age of 18. Dora was married to James L. “Jerry” Plummer on June 11, 1966 at the West Mendon United Methodist Church. Dora was a dedicated church member and served as President of the West Mendon Women’s Group and later became an officer for the Methodist Women’s Conference. She and her husband were members of Mendon Grange #1513 and were active members at the St. Joseph County Fair. She provided in-home day care to countless area children and was a Foster Care Mother to many.
Dora is survived by daughter, Lori (Tim) Slaughter of Texas Corners; son, Hugh (Niccole) Plummer of Mendon; and son/nephew, Cesar (Stephanie) Colette of Vicksburg; six grandchildren, Timothy (Chelsea) Slaughter, Jr, Logan (Hanna) Slaughter, Noah (Morgan) Slaughter, Dylan Plummer, Cassandra (Gabe) Parks, and Crystal (Ben) Armer; eight great-grandchildren, Maverick, Lincoln, Owen, Adeline, Maelynn, Brylon, Isaac, and Lucas; siblings, Jim (Betty) Arevalo, Gertrude (Rick) McKee, Milton Colette, Tina (Pedro) Aria, Juaquin Colette, and Armondo Colette; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jerry in 2000; niece, Este Colette; two sisters, Ruth Escobar and Media Colette; and a brother, Leonard Escobar.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Thursday at the Eickhoff Funeral Home in Mendon. Funeral services will be 11 am Friday, August 18, 2023 at the Mendon United Methodist Church with Pastor Carl Litchfield officiating. Burial will be in Mendon Cemetery.
