Constantine Fire Department receives grant

Constantine Fire Department Chief Mike Haydon said the agency recently received a sizable grant from the state’s Treasury Department.

Haydon said the department received $30,000, which will go toward the purchase of fire equipment for part-time, on-call and volunteer firefighters.

The amount is part of $12 million Michigan Department of Treasury allocated to benefit qualified local units of government, he said.

Constantine will keep $10,000 of the $30,000, while equal amounts will be distributed to Constantine and Fabius townships. Potential purchases include helmets, gloves, hoods, and turn-out coats, pants and boots.

The new items will help replace older and less-effective equipment, Haydon noted.
