Sturgis Township considers new roof for township building

Sturgis Township officials are debating whether to replace the shingle roof on the township hall.

Located on U.S. 12, west of the Sturgis city limits, the township hall features a shingle roof that dates to 2007, when the building opened.

Supervisor Von Metzger said the roof is in OK shape but is nearing the end of its life. One task the township is examining is the installation of solar panels on the roof. Metzger said if the township decides on going solar, the panels would be installed first. If not, quotes for a metal roof will be considered.

Two quotes for a new roof have been submitted, with a third expected soon, Metzger said.
