Woman arraigned in stolen horse and buggy case

A woman who allegedly stole a horse and buggy last month from the Walmart parking lot in Sturgis has been arraigned.

Lona Latoski, 31, pleaded not guilty to two counts following the Jan. 20 incident outside the South Centerville Road business.

Authorities said Latoski allegedly left the parking lot in a horse-drawn buggy belonging to a Shipshewana family. Latoski later told investigators she was cold and did not have a ride back to her residence at an East Chicago Road motel.

She was arrested after attempting to hide in a motel room.

Latoski faces felony charges of larceny of livestock and larceny between $1,000 and $20,000, authorities said.
