County commission agrees to COA millage-renewal request

St. Joseph County Board of Commissioners this week agreed to support a millage-renewal request sought by Commission on Aging.

If approved, the 6-year proposal would generate nearly $1.9 million annually for the Three Rivers-based agency.

COA director Pam Riley said renewal of three-quarters of a mill may not seem like a lot, but it is the difference between whether the COA can continue to operate or close all together.

The matter will appear before St. Joseph County voters Aug. 6.
