Laura June Krick, age 79, of Sturgis, passed away early Monday morning, May 13, 2024, at her home.
She was born August 4, 1944, in Sturgis, daughter of the late John and Ann (Halsey) Kelly.
Laura resided most of her life in the Sturgis area except for the 21 years she lived in Goodrich, Michigan. She was a graduate of Brighton High School in Brighton, Indiana with the class of 1963. She furthered her education at Mott Community College in Flint where she earned a degree in Early Education.
On November 22, 1964, she married Richard Krick in LaGrange.
She owned and operated Craftique Corner in Sturgis for several years. She taught painting and worked at the Sturgis Journal. While living in Goodrich she was very involved in the school system where she participated in the before and after school program and taught painting in the school system.
Laura was a longtime very active member of the Sturgis Wesleyan Church, now known as Radiant Life Church, where she founded the Children’s Program. She was also a former member of the Sturgis Bible Chapel where she was very active with the youth and women’s groups. Laura was instrumental in establishing the Tole Painting Society of Michigan.
She enjoyed her flower gardens and watching her birds. Her passion was painting and teaching others her crafts. She was proud of the fact that she taught five of her great grandchildren to paint. Laura’s true greatest joy in life was serving others.
She is survived by her loving husband: Richard; daughter: Machelle (Ken) Stockwell of Bradenton, Florida; son: Michael (JoAnn) Krick of Sturgis; grandchildren: Bob (Amanda) Grove, James Grove, Amanda (Rob) Boyer, Ashley (Jeremy) Cencer and Andrew (Riley) Krick; great grandchildren: Tom, Joe, Josh, Phil, Makayla, Elizabeth, Amelia, Melanie and Elisha; sisters: Joan Hawkins of Elkhart and Susan (Ed) James of Trinidad; brother: John (Georgia) Kelly of Elkhart, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son: Matthew Aaron Krick; great grandson: Austin Krick and brothers: Robert Kelly and Bill Kelly.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 7:00 Friday, May 17th at the Rosenberg Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 807 E. Chicago Rd. in Sturgis where funeral services celebrating the life of Laura June Krick will be held at 2:00 Saturday, May 18th. The Rev. Ryan Bibb of Radiant Life Church will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the service at Pretty Prairie Cemetery in rural Howe, Indiana.
