Marvin L. “Merv” Jarratt, Jr., age 70, of Sturgis, was called home to join his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, August 29, 2024, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born July 28, 1954, in Shelbyville, Michigan, the son of the late Marvin L. and Laila Agnes (DeCair) Jarratt, Sr.
Merv resided in Sturgis since 1985, coming from Howe, Indiana.
On September 8, 1989, he married Peggy (Slaughter) Erlandson in Centreville.
Merv retired in 2019 from Atlantic Packaging in Sturgis following 30 years of dedicated employment.
He was an active member of the Whole Life Church in Sturgis.
Merv had a passion for fishing. He was a past member of Lazy Boys Bass Club and the Bass Hole Bass Fishing Club in Kalamazoo.
He is survived by his wife: Peggy; daughters; Cheri (Aaron) Huber of Albert City, Iowa and Jessica (Jamie) Wood of Newell, Iowa; six grandchildren: Chase and Carly Huber, Nic, Nathaniel and Dakota Caldwell and Kurtis Wood; sisters: Mary Walker of Arizona, Mickie Town of Constantine and Ruth Caseman of Sturgis; brother: Roger Jarratt of Sturgis and several nieces and nephews including John Redmond, Marisa VanScoik and Cody Bryson who he was like a father to and special cousin: Dan Parson who he thought of as a brother.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister: Judith Weinberg and brother-in-law: Carl Caseman and Bert Walker.
The family would like to give special thanks to Stefanie Patrick RN and social worker JoAnn Alleshouse of Three Rivers Health Hospice for the love and care they gave to Merv.
In honoring Merv’s wishes cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, Saturday, September 7th at Whole Life Church, 1420 E Chicago Rd in Sturgis. A memorial service celebrating the life of Merv Jarratt will immediately follow the visitation at 12:00. Pastors Chuck and Josh Vizthum will officiate. Burial of the remains will take place at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis.
